Whether you are just starting out and want to get your designs ‘out there’, are looking for an opportunity to earn some extra money, or are just fed up of looking at those great designs sitting on your desktop… buildabrand.com holds the answer!
Our aim? To bring business and individual ideas to life by matching them with great designs!
We are looking for designers from any background or discipline to create unique brand symbols which can be purchased and used by our customers. They can be everything from intelligent everyday logos to urban inspired graphics and even unique, stylised or illustrative characters.
You will have the freedom to upload a wide range and unlimited number of designs and set the price point yourself. We will then match your design to our users and you will receive 50% 70% of the net sales price! That could be anything from £35 ($56 or €39) up to £1050 ($1,705 or €1,175), you decide.
Sound like a good idea to you? You can register your interest here and we’ll make sure you are invited to upload your designs!
Need a bit more information?
It’s so easy – A quick registration so we know who you are and how we can pay you is all it takes to start uploading designs.
No stress – We don’t ask you to define colours or select fonts, you just create brand symbols and upload them instantly.
You have control - There are no design briefs, restricting site styles or controlling customers to deal with; you decide what you want to upload, when, where and how many designs!
Everyone can get involved – Whether you are a student or graduate in London, a freelancer in Sydney, a professional in Berlin, or hobby designer in Tokyo, you can upload your work for sale on buildabrand.com.
Simple Design Upload - All you need to do is design a vector based brand symbol saved as an SVG file. We can even show you how to do this if you’re not sure.
One price, one sale – You set the price for your design and one lucky customer receives that symbol exclusively for their brand. Once an individual symbol is purchased, it will be removed from the site and all associated rights are transferred to the customer.
Royalties – You will receive a 50% 70% share of the net sale price for each brand symbol sold. Remember, there’s no limit to the amount you can upload!
Convinced? Register your interest here so you can be one of the first to experience it for yourself!

How can you call yourselves buildabrand? This isn’t building a brand. This is matching completely random vectors shapes to a company name in a completely arbitrary fashion – and charging the client AND the designer to do so.
Building a brand requires research, analysis and method in order to create something relevant and unique that represents the client. This doesn’t create anything of any relevance. It’s nonsense. It just cheapens the commercial value of design and perpetuates the myth that branding is a frivolous and extravagant expense.
And 50% – why would anybody give you 50% for work they’ve created. This just seems to be a an easy way to take advantage of struggling students and graduates.
Thank you for your feedback Danny, here are a few points, which should help to clear up some of the concerns you have.
buildabrand.com will not be assigning symbols in a completely random fashion, the brands will be matched to individuals/companies based on a unique algorhythm which has relevant brands tagged according to industries, values, shapes and visual significance. Building the brand matching system has required a lot of research and analysis; this will also be ongoing for each new symbol added to ensure that a strategically correct brand is presented to the customer.
Yes, we will be charging both the designer and the client, as all other sites of this nature do, yet we are presenting a much more competitive offering to both sides of the party and are not seeking to exploit anyone.
The customer does not have to pay to upload a brief or receive charges for commission or submission fees. We are simply trying to make a system, which allows accessible branding to those people struggling to get an idea off the ground. The customer can build as many brands as they like, see what the brand looks like in different print variations and formats, visualise the brand applied to different mediums, and then, if they like what they see, make a purchase.
For designers you do make a valid point that 50% may seem unreasonable for work that has been created by the designer themselves. However, you will see that the design area has not been launched yet and we are currently asking interested parties to fill in a questionnaire giving feedback; one of the areas of which was the royalties’ fee. In fact, we have made changes to increase the royalty fee to 70% when other sites pass on as little as 20%. Similar sites of this nature require the designer to create final artwork whereas we are asking for a vector graphic only, as the site takes care of colours, fonts, logotype and placement
We are not asking individuals to spend hours designing new symbols, this is a flexible opportunity which can allow designers to make money from work they may have already designed which was never used.
Great answer Justin. A cool way to make some much needed money out of things in one’s harddrive that perhaps would just sit there forever otherwise.
Hi Justin, Dave and Rob. You’ve made a really great website here. Your system seems to make a good job in matching great logos to different requirements or brands that the clients need. At the same time, for us, designers could pretty much submit our designs that haven’t been sold.
Good job guys, I like this better than just doing the simple crowdsourcing.
I’d love to feature you guys at http://Techfilipino.com. Send me a press release or something, I’d love to help you guys out.
